How did these two get here?
David Haye started off his career as a brash and talented Cruiserweight before stepping up and becoming a brash Heavyweight champion back in 2009. His biggest fight was 2011 when he lost the battle against Wladimir Klitschko. Hay stepped down from boxing after suffering various injuries and made his return in 2016.
Like Haye, Bellew spent most of his career also down a weight at Light Heavyweight. After suffering a 2013 title fight loss to Adonis Stevenson and looking like a fringe contender unable to win at the big international level, he stepped up to Cruiserweight and is undefeated since he made that move, somewhat surprisingly giving his career a huge boost, and finally winning a world title back in 2016.
The Haye fight was his Heavyweight debut, and although it was a fight few expected him to win, he managed to come out on top (with many claiming that it was because of Haye’s injuries he managed to do so).
