Portuguese source, A Bola, have stated that Liverpool scouts were present to watch Sporting Lisbon striker, Islam Slimani (27), in their game on Saturday 23rd January 2016.
The Algerian striker managed to net two goals on Saturday’s game against Ferreira, taking his goal tally up to 20 this season, in 29 games overall. This terrific form has led to a number of teams to closely monitor the prolific striker’s situation.
It is believed Slimani’s new contract (which he signed in the summer of 2015) contains a release clause around the fee of £23 million. This is a much lower fee in comparison to what is believed to be that of Shakhtar Donetsk attacker, Alex Teixeira’s asking price, whom Liverpool are also rumoured to be in extensive talks with. With this being the case, it could be thought that if talks for Teixeira fall through, the Reds could opt to go for the cheaper option of Islam Slimani as an alternative.
It is no secret that Jürgen Klopp is looking for a way to solve Liverpool’s lack of goalscoring and with 15 games left to make up the 8 point difference towards the coveted fourth place, Islam Slimani could be a realistic option for the German boss.
