Arsenal scouts were in Naples a week ago to watch Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Emirates stadium club reportedly sent representatives to go and watch the centre-back as Napoli face RB Leipzig in a Europa League clash.

According to Italian source Calciomercato, the arsenal scouts were there to watch the defender although according to other reports the Gunners also went to watch Leipzig forward Timo Werner in that game.

Koulibaly has been linked with Premier League club Chelsea in the past and the West London club has reportedly had a £52.5million bid rejected in June.

Napoli’s main reason for not selling the player is because they had no ‘adequate replacement’ either int he squad or in the transfer market at the time.

“I will not sell him unless Sarri (Napoli head coach) tells me: ‘I have people who are reliable: you give up who you want,’” club president Aurelio De Laurentiis said at the time.

The 26-year-old Senegal international has been at Napoli for four seasons now and joined the club from Belgian side Genk in 2014 in a deal believed to have been £6.5million.

Napoli have conceded just 15 goals in 25 games with Koulibaly at the back. This would be a great addition for Arsenal as they are in need of some serious defensive recruitment.
