Nacho Monreal has penned a contract extension with the Gunners amid rumours that the left back wanted a return to Spain.
Athletic Bilbao were heavily linked with a move for 29-year-old in the summer, and a deal was even agreed by both parties according to reports in Spain at the time, however Monreal remained at Arsenal and has gone on to be one the Gunners top performers this season.
Monreal said: “I met the boss (Arsene Wenger) three years ago and I have a really good relationship with him and I’m really happy with him. For these reasons I extended my contract,”
Elsewhere, Arsenal target Adrien Rabiot is set for a move away from Paris in the next few days, but to fellow French side Marseille rather than North London. Rabiot has been a target for Arsene Wenger for years, however PSG have refused the midfielder to leave the French capital.
Rabiot has expressed an interest to leave Paris on loan, stating in an interview last month: “I’ve asked the president for a loan move in January if my time on the field is insufficient, “It’s something that he can’t refuse me – I know he likes me very much. “When you train all week, you want to be on the field. Sometimes it’s not possible and it’s frustrating.”
