Manchester United have joined the race to sign 23-year-old Barcelona defender Yerry Mina. The Colombia international had a great World Cup and managed to get himself on the scoresheet three times, including an equalising goal against England.

Southampton, Lyon and Wolves have all been linked with the defender. French radio station RMC reported today that Manchester United have joined the race and are prepared to make a bid for the defender.

Mina’s uncle Jair Mina, who also acts as his agent, is due to meet with Barcelona officials today to discuss his future.

The 23-year-old defender Joined the La Liga champions from Brazilian side Palmeiras in a £10million transfer in January this year. He played in only five La Liga games and one match in the Copa del Rey during the second half of the season.

Jose Mourinho is known to be in the market for a new centre-back even though they have Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof to choose from.

Jair Mina (his uncle & agent) said recently that his nephew could end up at one of Europe’s bigger clubs in a comment that would suggest Manchester United’s interest isn’t recent. Rumours over the size of the fee has put it at around £35million.
