Burnley 0-2 Tottenham: Clarets brushed aside by dominant Spurs

Tottenham kept up the pressure on league leaders Chelsea, as the gap at the top was reduced from ten points to seven.

The visitors were sluggish in the first half and were dealt big blows as both central midfielders, Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama were both substituted due to injury. The only real highlight of a dull first half was Dele Alli blazing over from close range.

Despite losing their midfield pairing before the interval, Spurs began the second half at a much higher tempo, and were soon rewarded, as a loose ball in the box fell to Eric Dier who tucked home for his first goal of the season.

Vincent Janssen was replaced by Korean forward Heung Min Son, who eventually wrapped up the game, 13 minutes from time, as he latched onto a Dele Alli cross to tap in to the empty net, to seal Tottenham’s first win at Turf Moor since 1975.

Tottenham were boosted by the news that Chelsea had suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.

Spurs travel to Swansea midweek as they look to keep their faint title hopes alive.
