Manchester City are reportedly refusing to agree to 26-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos’ huge wage demands.
The German played under Guardiola when he was at Bayern Munich before making the switch to Real Madrid and both player and manager are keen on a reunion at the Etihad stadium. With the midfielder reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League.
However, a source close to the club told The Sun that City chiefs are reluctant to sanction the deal after finding out that the contract he signed upon joining Real Madrid in 2014 is worth a whopping £240,000-a-week:
“It was a shock to discover that Kroos is one of the biggest earners at Madrid,” they said.
“That was one of the reasons why he quit Bayern.
“It was thought it would be closer to £120,000 a week – so double their estimate.”
Guardiola’s is still eager to bring in Kroos to the Citizens and could force the City’s board to make the move.
