According to reports, Liverpool have sent scouts throughout the 2015/16 season to watch 18 year old wonderkid, Ousmane Dembélé.
The number 23 Rennes winger has had one heck of a breakthrough season in the French League with 9 goals and 3 assists to his name in 17 league appearances in a variety of attacking positions this season, leading to clubs all over Europe to enquire about Ousmane.
Just last October Dembélé signed a new three-year contract with Rennes as the club’s project manager and former Manchester United centre back, Mikael Silvestre, convinced Phillippe Montanier (Rennes manager) the 18 year old could be something special.
Silvestre stated, “I will take a chance and say that he can win the Ballon d’Or.”
He added, “I saw Cristiano Ronaldo at the same age at Manchester United, and Ousmane has characteristics that remind me of a young Cristiano.”
Quite a prediction for such a raw talent; however with the right tutorship it seems completely plausible. With Liverpool having to battle with a host of clubs such as Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona for Ousmane’s signature, the 18 year old is sure not to come cheaply.
The decision will now be Dembélé’s to make and if Reds fans want to see him arrive on Merseyside, they will have to hope that Jürgen Klopp’s known willingness to play young players, in addition to his track record of developing talents into real stars of the game, will be enough to convince Ousmane Dembélé that Liverpool should be his next home.
