According to Calciomercato, German boss Jürgen Klopp has asked İlkay Gündoğan to join him at Liverpool.
Gündoğan was signed by Klopp during his time at Dortmund in 2011 and enjoyed a hugely successful period under the maverick of a manager, winning 3 trophies and a runners-up medal in the Champions League.
Reports suggest Liverpool are not the only team in for the 25 year old, as both Manchester United and Juventus are said to be keen on the midfielder, with Juventus leading the chase for Gündoğan’s signature. However, to have another chance to work under his former boss, whom he enjoyed such success with could be a major factor when deciding upon his own future.
According to Goal, when asked upon his future at current club, Borussia Dortmund, İlkay replied, “There is still no decision, and of course, everything has to be considered very carefully, because your career is limited in time. But to be honest, everything is still open… I know what I have at my club, and I’m not going to lose sight of it. But again, a decision is definitely not made.” seemingly leaving the door wide open for a possible move.
With İlkay Gündoğan’s current deal running out in 2017, Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel may want to cash in on the player now, rather than risk losing his midfielder’s talents for free.
